Do you want to join the bandwagon ?

Why do large corporations want to outsource their work ?

Is it not easy for them to hire more people and get the work done internally?

Large corporations have regularly been signing up deals with LPO service providers. The following are some examples:

  •   In 2009, Microsoft engaged with Integreon, one of the larger pure play LPO services providers to provide exclusive e-discovery and document review services. The contract was subsequently extended to include contract review services.
  • Also in 2009, Rio Tinto signed up with CPA Global, another large legal services provider, to provide contract review and drafting, legal research, and document review services. The engagement is also geared to expand to additional services.
  • Pinsent Masons, a leading UK based law firm, signed up with South Africa based LPO firm, Exigent in 2009 to provide initial data review and e-disclosure services.
  • Clifford Chance, a UK based law firm and member of the “Magic Circle”, procures legal support work from its shared services center in Gurgaon, India.
  • Nixon Peabody, a Global 100 law firm outsourced its e-discovery review work to Pangea3, an LPO and a part of Thomson Reuters.

Is outsourcing only for the large law firms / corporations ?

Is there any benefit in outsourcing ?

Is there any risk?

What benefit can you derive from outsourcing your work ?

Is Legal Process Outsourcing Receding ?

Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) is booming. While the Internet is riff with predictions that total global revenue will exceed $20 billion dollars by 2015, LPOs are claiming major deals with the likes of Microsoft and Rio Tinto. Despite concerns over quality control and domestic jobs being lost, even the American Bar Association endorses LPOs as a “salutary trend in a global economy”.

The reason for LPOs success and plaudits are obvious. They save lawyers time and clients money. The average billing hours of U.S lawyers are higher than virtually anywhere else, especially compared to India and the Philippines, the two main outsourcing destinations for English-speaking lawyers.

Technology is the reason why lawyers and paralegals from these countries are able to work on legal projects originating from not only different jurisdictions but also different cultures. While the Internet has led to virtual offices becoming commonplace, software can standardize documents and streamline legal processes with ease. It seems that more and more can be outsourced as technology improves.

U.S. Based Outsourcing of Legal Word Processing Increases

ATLANTA, Mar 14, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Atlanta-based LawDocsXpress ( www.lawdocsxpress.com ) announced a 225 percent increase in revenues from its legal word processing services in the first two months of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011. To meet the increased demand, LawDocs expanded its word processing capabilities and enhanced its proprietary software. The increase was primarily from law firms that previously had limited outsourcing strictly to overflow projects. The increase in U.S.-based outsourcing of legal word processing is consistent with the general legal industry trend to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

“In the past 60 days, two AMLAW 100 and two AMLAW 200 law firms, all longtime users of LawDocs’ services for overflow purposes only, changed strategies and dramatically expanded use of our word processing services.

David Kinnear Listed as Outsourcing Institute Top 10 Power Broker in New York

Cerebra LPO COO & Sr. Adviser David Kinnear makes Top 10 list of power brokers in prestigious rankings by The Outsourcing Institute

New York, NY – March 14, 2012: Known for his ability to spot early trends and drive groundswell in the industry, Cerebra LPO COO David Kinnear was today announced a Top 10 Power Networker by the Outsourcing Institute. Accredited for his critical role as a marketplace catalyst behind the scenes, Kinnear joins a list of New York’s power brokers who have helped build the industry in the Big Apple and much further afield.

As an attorney & early architect for distributed and outsourced services delivery during his days at Credit Suisse, Kinnear has since played a role in the growth of the HRO, BPO and most recently, LPO sectors. He is the founder & Chairman of The Global Sourcing Council and a partner in GSSOCX. He sits on the Global Advisory Board of BRICS Connect. He takes the view that Cloud changes everything – providing the basis for a new wave of commercial opportunity for both established companies and grassroots start-ups alike.

Commenting on the award, Frank Casale the founder & CEO of the Outsourcing Institute said: ”Hearty congratulations to David Kinnear for making this list. For years he has invested the time to build, nurture and share his network. He has a very keen eye for industry trends and I recommend being on his radar, for sure.”

Of the growing LPO sector, Kinnear notes: “Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) looks a lot like the early HRO market – yet has the potential to be even bigger. The LPO movement represents a fundamental and exciting shift in the delivery of legal services – and perhaps more broadly, in professional services. The brief history of the outsourcing industry tells us to watch closely and look for the agile game-winners such as Cerebra, not just the big names.”
